The Swiss, makers of awesome cheese, army knives, hot chocolate, cute blonde girls, and now awesome water bottles. You might be asking, “Hey, MMAGearGuide, why would I want to pay 20 dollars for a water bottle?” Well this is your answer. My quest for a reusable water bottle started when I had a very interesting conversation with a boxing instructor, who also happened to be an engineer working at a water bottle company. He posed the question “Do you ever wonder why there is an expiration date on water bottles? Water doesn’t expire. . .” He then proceeded to tell me various things you may have heard already, like many brands of bottled water was just municipal tap water filtered, how bottle water plastics can be hazardous to your health, and how people got along just fine without bottled water which was not around not too long ago.
Bottled water is not safer than tap water, and, arguably, can be more harmful due to the plastic containers. I soon quickly bought a Brita water filter and started saving tons of cash. But I was still scared about plastics seeping into my water and what not. I looked at Nalgene, which is a popular choice but still made of plastic. I finally found SIGG, and have not regretted my purchase one bit. The SIGG water bottle comes in a variety of colors, designs, and sizes. I picked the .75-liter version; there is also a 1.0 liter and .6 liter bottle. The bottle is made out of aluminum, so there is no fear of getting plastic carcinogens and what not in your water, and also, even after time in the sun, there is no ill effect to the taste of your water. I’m sure you have tasted that “plasticy-tasting water” some time in your life. The bottle is also entirely leak proof with a nice screw on top. I have thrown my bottle in with my gear and never once has it leaked. I feel very secure; I would even be willing to keep in the same bag as a laptop. SIGG bottles are very durable, with reports of bottles lasting over 20 years (SIGG is actually not a new company, just receiving some popularity recently).
SIGG is the last water bottle I will ever buy. Even if the whole “plastic bottle is bad for your health” thing ends up to be good old-fashioned paranoia, SIGG still makes the most durable, leak proof water bottle I have ever used. Even though the initial price is expensive, it will pay for itself in the long run. As Mixed Martial Artists, grapplers, strikers, any one simply working cardio or strength, we all know the importance of water, drink up!
